一 Catheter-over-needle NCD · 14G × 8 cm

Chest Decompression Needle — 14G × 8 cm for Tension Pneumothorax

A tension pneumothorax can turn survivable trauma into a cardiac arrest in minutes. This is the field tool that buys those minutes back — a large-bore catheter-over-needle that vents trapped pleural air long enough to move the casualty to definitive care.

We manufacture one focused needle chest decompression (NCD) device: 14 gauge × 3.25 in (8 cm), supplied with its own protective carry case. One product, built to one job, made for buyers who stock trauma kits at scale.

01 · The job & the failure mode

What a Chest Decompression Needle Does — and the Failure Mode Buyers Miss

The job is simple; the failure modes are not. When pleural pressure climbs faster than the body can compensate, the needle is inserted at the approved site to release that pressure. The needle is then withdrawn — and the catheter stays in the chest as the venting channel.

The Catheter-Survival Gap

A needle that decompresses once ≠ a catheter that keeps venting

That last part is where cheap NCD devices fail. If the catheter kinks, buckles on a thick chest wall, or dislodges after the needle comes out, the pneumothorax reoccludes and the field gain is lost. Documented NCD failures cluster around three variables—these are exactly the three lines a serious buyer should check on any spec sheet, ours included.

This page covers selection, specs, applications, and sourcing. For the clinical insertion procedure and the needle-vs-chest-tube decision, see our field guide (coming soon).

14G bore

Large-enough lumen to vent air without the catheter collapsing under negative pressure.

8 cm length

Reaches the pleural space through a thicker-than-average adult chest wall.

Needle + case

Catheter-over-needle, one-piece deployment, protected in transit and in the kit.

02 · Gauge & length

Find the Right Configuration

Pick the needle by chest-wall reach and venting bore, not by price alone. Most tactical and EMS programs standardize on a 14G × 8 cm device because it matches the reach and flow that field guidance (TCCC / ATLS-style protocols) describes for adult casualties.

ConfigurationBoreUsable lengthTypical program
Standard adult (our product)14G3.25 in / 8 cmTactical, military, EMS adult NCD
10G heavy-bore10G3.25 in / 8 cmMaximum-flow programs custom—we currently produce 14G only
Pediatric / shortsmaller boreshorterPediatric protocols inquire—not in our current line

Straight answer: we currently produce only the 14G × 8 cm device. The 10G / pediatric rows are here to help you locate your requirement — if your project needs those, say so in the RFQ and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can make them. We don’t claim stock we don’t hold.

When to choose 14G × 8 cm

It’s the right call when

  • Adult tactical / military / EMS casualty care
  • Standard trauma-kit and IFAK restocking
  • Programs aligning to TCCC-style needle decompression guidance

When you may need something else

Talk to us first if

  • You run a pediatric program (shorter length / smaller bore)
  • You’ve internally validated a 10G device — we’ll tell you honestly whether we can supply it, never relabel a 14G

04 · Buyer types

Industries & Applications

The same 14G × 8 cm needle serves several buyer types — what changes is the volume and the documentation they need.

A — DEFENSE

Military & defense procurement

IFAK and unit-level trauma kits. Buyers here care most about lot traceability and consistent production across batches. We’ve seen tenders rejected not over the device but over inconsistent batch coding — so that’s where our QC documentation matters.

B — EMS

EMS & ambulance services

Restocking decompression kits. Lead time and packaging integrity drive repeat orders.

C — DISTRIBUTION

Tactical-medical distributors & kit assemblers

Buying components to build their own NCD kits and trauma packs. They need stable FOB pricing and OEM / private-label options.

D — HUMANITARIAN

Humanitarian & field-hospital supply

Bulk disposables for MENA / SEA / LATAM, where export documents (COA, CO, CI) decide how fast the shipment clears.

What we do not claim

  • We are not ARS®, TPAK®, Turkel® or any other branded NCD device — those are trademarks of their owners. Ours is a generic 14G catheter-over-needle NCD sold under our own name.
  • “FDA-registered facility” is not “FDA 510(k) cleared.” We state registration only; we do not claim a clearance we don’t hold.
  • We claim no committee endorsement (e.g. CoTCCC). Our device is designed to align with published guidance — alignment is not endorsement.
  • All performance language is limited to confirmed specifications. We make no “guaranteed lifesaving” claims.

Frequently Asked Questions

For adult casualties, the common standard is 14 gauge × 3.25 in (8 cm) — the bore and length field guidance describes for reaching the pleural space through a typical adult chest wall. Our product is built to exactly this spec. Pediatric programs use shorter, smaller-bore devices.

Unit cost depends on order volume, packaging (bulk vs branded kit) and destination. It is a low per-unit item; the real B2B cost driver is documentation and batch consistency, not the needle itself. Send your target quantity and we return FOB pricing within 24 h.

It is a temporizing measure, not a definitive fix. The catheter can kink or dislodge after the needle is withdrawn, and a too-short or too-narrow device may not reach or vent the pleural space — which is why bore (14G) and length (8 cm) matter. It buys time to reach a chest tube / definitive care; it does not replace it.

No. ARS® and TPAK® are trademarked products of other manufacturers. We supply our own generic 14G catheter-over-needle NCD device — comparable in configuration, sold under our own name, not relabeled or counterfeit.

Yes — we can package the 14G needle under your branding and assemble it into kits, subject to MOQ. Send your kit bill-of-materials and branding files for a quote.

The facility operates under ISO 13485, with CE (MDR) and FDA registration (numbers confirmed on request). Each shipment includes COA, certificate of origin, commercial invoice, packing list and HS code support for customs clearance.

For adults, order 14G × 8 cm. If your protocol specifies a 10G heavy-bore or a pediatric size, tell us up front — we’ll confirm honestly whether we can supply it rather than substitute a 14G.
